you know what i like best? the price
the poster boy for repetitive stress injury
where my neck and shoulders meet
a shard of glass is piercing through
and i got them little mermaid's feet
pins and needles pricking my hands
and fireflies frolicking inside my eyes
the thirteenth hour the engine collapses
near the end of the start / finish straight
what the hell happened what did i just do
driver failure ---no need for an autopsy
i am exhausted but i am not sleepy
could have gone for a few more laps[es]
it is over now and i accept my fate
time for some coffee and a toilet break
on this the eleventh hour of the ride
lose about twenty minutes about five tours
but i return feeling refreshed and ready
for more solitude and clarity of purpose
less pressure now so less mistakes
a relaxed drive around the countryside
the ninth hour the ninth gate the scene
phases into reverse 3D severe reverie
yes it is true all is a trick of the mind
road gapes into a deep grey canyon
the dark racing line is the elevated path
leaves on trees burning holes in space
blue sky presses against the windscreen
stumbling as the seventh hour approaches
errors here and there one after another
this is further than i've ever gone before
i smoke a cigarette and some roaches
how mad am i to do something like this
i just like to be alone i trust only myself
in the seat of a racecar there is no other
steadily coasting towards the fifth hour
i am resting in the car more than racing
not quite sure what is going on around me
the wires are tangled the lines are crossed
i get disconnected from the server but
i am able to return without much time lost
time to switch on the auxillary power
sometime after the third hour passes
i am feeling very positive and confident
i see the traffic has spread out a bit
in the clear air i try to do some quick times
i drive my two fastest laps back to back
but i use up all my energy in the attack
and my body melts into molasses
the first hour i'm careful where i tread
no crazy moves just getting settled in
avoiding incidents maintaining safe speed
figuring out where faster cars can pass
i'm not rattled i am saving my strength
for there is still a long long race ahead
and this is the grand gambit du levegh
failing the brake test at the rolling start
leaves me dead last when i cross the line
to begin the biggest event of my life
as the seconds minutes hours advance
the memory of fall exacerbates my heart
thank you racing gods for this chance
so maybe i'll win (saved by zero)
