Daemon: n [from the mythological meaning, later rationalized as the acronym 'Disk and Execution MONitor'] A program that is not invoked explicitly, but lies dormant waiting for some condition(s) to occur. The idea is that the perpetrator of the condition need not be aware that a daemon is lurking.
Simula na ng non-existence buhay ko dito. Sprawl exile hanggang dumating ang pera next week. Didn't do much yesterday. Web-browsed for about an hour, downloading a DS9 episode guide, some cyberpunk material (although focused on gaming instead of critical research this time). After that, I read some old file downloads na hindi ko pa nababasa na nakalimutan kong nasa isang floppy disk ko.
Santo: Down with the floppies!
Alagao: Down with the Macs!
After dinner, humiram ako ng dalawang tapes sa Video Alpha down the road, Kaze no Na wa Amnesia (The Wind Called Amnesia), an interesting post-apocalyptic SF anime, at Virtuosity. Both were okay. Not perfect, but enjoyable. Tapos kaunti uling TV, MIDI, and then I went back to writing "Constellations." I realized I wasn't getting much headway with the story, since I still had no idea how to end it, so I took a solitary walk around the Yamada-Minami Senri area. Nakaisip ako ng several possible thematic conclusions so I bought a bottle of iced tea from a convenience store, and headed back. Tinawagan ko si Tricia, at dinscuss namin kung paano ififit ang schedule namin during double-homecoming, and then got back to work.
Sinimulan ko na rin pala basahin ang Snow Crash ni Neal Stephenson - isang second generation cyberpunk novel na mas-humurous ang approach, almost parodying certain aspects of the first generation writers.
BAWAL ANG KANJI SA CNN
V> ZW7199510 1997-1
Ano ba yung nakasulat doon?
V> Interactive Music Control with Synthesizer
Anong nagagawa nito?
Lagoon, ano iyong sinasabi mong play-off system mo?
Also, ako lang daw ang walang spinal anestesia for delivery. Ewan ko kung ano ang ma-dederive diyan.
GEx Forum
This is the first installment of some bits and pieces I will write regarding The Hub's construction. Yung mga society aspects saka na lang, mga focused pieces on things about the city, people, etc. muna. Not all of this will be original ideas. Most ng mga ideas ko kasi napupunta sa fiction at medyo mahirap pang i-implement for gaming kaya eto muna. Eto nakaw muna sa Internet from a Shadowrun gamer called Blackjack, modified by myself.
First off, some places:
Lee's Rat Emporium (Pits)
Small Bar/Lee Bradly, Owner/Bias Against Wussies
Seedier than seedy, even the ageing jukebox appears drunk as it slurs out oldies at half speed. Lee, a human mutated by faulty bioware implants, is
smashed most of the time, never bothering to clean the place up resulting in a good half foot layer of beer cans, napkins, and vomit covering the floor. Lee serves two kinds of drinks: Beer (one brand, known simply as "beer") and whiskey (one kind, known simply as "whiskey"). All drinks are served in large
mugs....including the whiskey.
Neurotics (Pits)
Medium Nightclub/Sam Fragment, Owner/Subtle Bias Against Everybody
It is impossible to spend more than five minutes in Neurotics without acquiring the unnerving feeling that everybody believes you want to kill them. In turn you tend to feel a bit threatened over the possibility that they may be thinking the same thing about you. Granted, the general decor of the nightclub doesn't help: It is an array of flashing lights and large trideo screens depicting unprovoked acts of violence. Even the bartenders and waitresses are nervous, frequently spilling and dropping drinks for no apparent reason. Needless to say certain katol freaks who thrive on this type of chaos make this their favorite hang out. It is rumored that illegal emotive rock plays in Neurotics.
Overhang (PPP connection)
Small Nightclub/Allison Preacher, Owner/Bias Against Talkers
Overhang is an International Space Theme Bar. The most disturbing thing about Bad Vibes is that you almost never hear anybody talking. The music is rather subdued and sitarish like, nobody really dances that much, and you rarely see any outward hostilities. Everybody communicates either through signals or by sliding pieces of paper to one another. The whole surface of the bar is made of mirrors such that it is disorienting to move around. It's part of the space theme that sound is not transported.
Stupids (Pits}
Small Bar/Eerk Fleck, Owner/Bias Against Intelligent People
Located right next to a mental asylum, "Stupids" acquired it's incredibly politically incorrect name by hiring people too mentally deficient to operate alone in society, but too well to go into the institution. The result has been the acquisition of diligent, yet rather inept, workers who can usually get your order from the bar to your table, but only after fifteen tries to get the order correct. The bar is run by Eerk Fleck, a Japanese looking guy, who is mentally perfectly normal unless you take into account his preoccupation with plastic explosives.
